A quick hello and a big ol' NCIS rec
It's been a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! The big meal went really well, and I had a good time at work on Friday morning. Nothing like working all by yourself in a quiet building. When I ran out of work, I watched videos on the laptop and played games. If I could, I think I'd work third shift much more often.

Friday, though I didn't plan to, I did some shopping and got quite a lot done in a very short amoutn of time. Son G's birthday is in a couple weeks, and I was able to find the Wii game he wanted at Target, along with some inexpensive movies for stocking stuffers and the remainder of the overseas gifts.

Yesterday, I started working on what will eventually be the coat closet in the dining room. Had to pause with that; the walls were badly stained, so we put a couple coats of Kilz paint on it and let it sit overnight. I worked on the closet in my own room instead, and fixed it so the things I use all the time (yoga clothing, sweats and old shirts for hanging around the house) were in the shelves on the floor and the rest of the infrequently used stuff was up on the high shelves. It makes me happy to have that fixed; all the clothing used to fall down on my head when I pulled out a sweatshirt or a pair of yoga pants.

Last night, at the end of doing laundry a few minutes after midnight, the phone rang. It was my coworker; I'd forgotten that I was supposed to go in to the office at midnight for one last shift before the new employee starts! I was at the office by twenty past twelve. Slept a bit this morning when I got home, then packed up the overseas holiday gifts so I can mail them tomorrow.

The cherry on top of the weekend was finding an NCIS AU slave!fic by [info - personal] seleneheart at the [info] raselgethi community. (Minxie, are you getting this?) It's long, satisfying, beautifully written, hot as the blazes, and a perfect AU for Gibbs. If you like powerplay fic at all, at all, go read this one. It's the good crack, and there's looking like several follow-on stories, too!

Also, in "The Nigerian Job," the Leverage team drinks out of "Leverage Consultants and Associates" coffee mugs. WANT!!!

Daltrey: I’ve Never Seen It

Fans of the CSI franchise hear songs by The Who every time they watch an episode because all three theme songs (”Who Are You”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Baba O’Riley”) are performed by the band. Singer Roger Daltrey even made a guest appearance in the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode “Living Legend” during the show’s seventh season. However, Daltrey admitted that he’s not exactly familiar with the franchise. “I’ve never seen it,” he said, laughing. “I’ve seen bits of it, but never a whole one. And I’ve been on it as an actor, but I’ve never seen it. It’s not any disrespect to that show, and they’ve been incredibly loyal to me and The Who, but I just don’t watch TV.”

Is this icon yours?
I made this icon quite a while ago. It seems to me that it was made as a gift for someone, but I don't remember who. I'd like to use it, but if it's yours, please let me know that you don't mind me using it myself.

It's major suckage for me to attempt this because I am horrible with introducing myself to anyone for anything. Anyways, my name is Teresa and I am in my twenties -- at that halfway point to my midlife crisis. At least that's how it feels nearly everyday. I enjoy long walks (I really do), taking pictures of everything, reading trashy romance novels and drooling over media-claimed womanizers like Gerard Butler and John Mayer; even though Mayer always has me going that he's on some sort of medication. It's that sleepy slope of his eyes, I swear. Anyway, I'm silly and weird and I swear I'm nice. Add me because my journal is super-empty? :( It gets lonely in here.

Hellos, my name's Birdie, I'm 23 and I used to have an IJ forever and a day ago but I fell out of the whole online journal thing - I think I'm ready to pick it back up.

Interests: Drawing, illustration (art in general), corsetry, books, collecting odds and ends; for example I'm on a serious penguin kick right now.
Hobbies: Reading, watching Tim Curry movies, helping my friend run his nightclub once a week, making coffee, arting, making new friends, knitting
What are you reading right now?: The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher - currently halfway through book 6 Blood Rites

I'm hoping to find interesting people who I'll get along with...that means pretty much anybody. Just as long as you don't bring drama to me, and are generally friendly then we'll get along just fine. :)

Giovinazzo Helps Feed The Homeless

CSI: New York’s Carmine Giovinazzo (Danny Messer) was one of the hundreds of volunteers that showed up to work at the annual Thanksgiving event at the Los Angeles Mission on Wednesday, November 25. Thousands came for the meal, which included more than a ton of turkey, 800 pounds of mixed vegetables, 750 pounds of garlic mashed potatoes, 400 pounds of cranberry relish, 90 gallons of gravy and 3,500 dinner rolls—along with 440 pumpkin pies for dessert.

“We’ve served 580-thousand meals in the last 12 months, an increase of nearly 10 percent over the previous year,” said Herb Smith, President of the Los Angeles Mission. “Everyone knows the Los Angeles Mission has celebrities come down and serve meals for the holidays, but we are more than just meals. The Mission works daily to save the lives and then restore the dignity of hundreds of homeless and poor men, women and children.”

Study Aims To Debunk The ‘CSI Effect’

A study that will be published next month in the Vanderbilt University Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law challenges the so-called “CSI Effect”, which suggests that jurors are influenced by what they see on shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its spinoffs. The report uses information gathered in Washtenaw County, Michigan, and concludes that most jurors are knowledgeable about technology such as DNA, fingerprints and ballistic evidence regardless of which television series they watch.

The study also found that fans of shows like CSI were just as likely to return a guilty verdict in cases that rely on more traditional evidence like witness testimony. “Our conclusion was that there was no such thing as a ‘CSI Effect,’” said Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Donald Shelton. “We suggested it should be called the ‘tech-effect’ because it simply reflects the knowledge people have of the role of technology in our culture.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone here in the U.S. is eating enough to keep them going for a week or two. After all, as my roommate told me today, it IS against the law to not overeat on Thanksgiving Day, right? So keep that American spirit going, guys, and eat until you pop!

I have a few more pics for the NC17 crowd coming up next, so check back after you get another slice of pumpkin pie, okay?

Enjoy!
